Gilmore is synonymous with early automobile racing. They were one of the first oil companies to realize that their sponsorship sold products. Roar with Gilmore was painted on Indianapolis race cars, Bonneville Salt Flats streamliners, quarter midget race cars and racing airplanes, to name a few. During their sponsorship a recorded 253 automotive wins and records were won. This included 2 Indianapolis wins.
Gilmore is also synonymous with Route 66 and America. At one point, Gilmore was one of the nations largest oil companies. They had over 3000 stations on the west coast. Later they merged with Socony Vacuum Oil Company which merged into the group now called Mobil Oil.
